The Importance of Counseling By David G. Scott /

The subject of counseling is an extremely important one. It is most unfortunate, but, In this article I will cover who should give the sessions, how often they should be given as well as the location to have them, how long they should last, and what should be covered in the sessions. The Church and or its designee will have gone through the Seminary and or Bible College thus they are much more knowledgeable and well equipped to counsel the person/family that has been through a demonic haunt. Another reason why the Church should give the counseling session is for the simple fact that there will be many, many in depth questions from the person/family that will need to be answered correctly so as to help them (person/family) recover from their ordeal properly. If the questions aren’t answered or addressed properly, then the person/family will not be able to handle things in the appropriate manner. If that happens, then there is a very real danger of things happening again in the future. That does of course mean that the demon(s) could return; I will also go over the issue of how often these counseling sessions should be given, as well as the location that they should take place. When it comes to how often the counseling sessions should be, that will depend on the seriousness of that particular case. I can’t stress enough the fact that every case is different; even when dealing with the demonic, every case is still different. It is always a good idea to have four (4) sessions with the person/family at the very least when conducting the counseling. If a case is a very severe one, then more than four (4) counseling sessions may be needed. However, having stated that, if a case isn’t too severe then fewer than four (4) counseling sessions may be needed. It should be noted that these counseling sessions should always be held in a place in which the person/family is completely comfortable, as well as private. In most cases, it is usually a good idea to have these sessions at the client’s home, for at least one hour, and at least once a week, every week, for a month. If it is believed that further sessions are needed, then it would be wise to do so. When the counseling first begins with the person/family, then the first couple of sessions should be set up to address any questions concerning their faith, beliefs, and or what anything in the Bible teaches that they don’t, or might not understand. It is always a good idea to clarify anything in the Bible so as to make sure that the person/family has not misinterpreted something that scripture speaks of. If the person/family does misinterpret something in the Bible it could very well affect them when it comes to trying to deal with the demonic, and how to get past it and resolved. When the counselor schedules any sessions to deal specifically with the concerns of the person/family’s faith, beliefs, etc. and that has been cleared up, it will then be time to move on to the demonic issue(s). When the counselor begins to discuss the person/family’s case, then two sessions should be scheduled at minimum. When this happens, one session should be used to address how the demonic activity in the home affected the person/family, while the other session should be used to discuss any negative experiences from the person/family’s past. When the counseling session that is intended to discuss any past negative experiences, etc. begins, it is this session that could help determine when the demon(s) entered that person/family’s life. It is very important to remember that demons are attracted to negative experiences, so, these types of counseling sessions can not only help to pin-point any negative experiences that the demon may have been “feeding on” in order to grow stronger and more powerful, but they can also help to determine when the demon may have entered the person/family’s life as mentioned above. Any time these sessions are held, the counselor should always discuss how the person/family felt at the time of the negative experience, why the person/family felt that way, how they could have avoided it, and finally, how they can prevent it in the future. Learning how to do these things is extremely important. If the person/family can learn how to avoid the same types of negative situations in the future, then they will not be doing anything that would allow the demon to possibly return, and or feed on if they are still in the process of expelling it from their home and life. It is most unfortunate, but if the person/family can not effectively change their ways from negative to positive, and or learn to control themselves for the better, then not only will the demonic issue get worse, but, everyday things in their life will get worse. If so, this will allow the demon to remain thereby feeding on the negative lifestyle and issues of that person/family. It is also a sad fact that not everyone can be helped. If this is indeed the case with a person/family that has been counseled, and they have been told what to do, know how to make things better but simply chooses not to (Some people are just stuck in their ways and can not change), or can’t for whatever reason, then the counselor must realize that they have done all they can and move on, etc. This can be very difficult for the counselor to do, and they will often beat themselves up over it at times. However, all they need to do is remember that they gave the person/family everything they needed to succeed. The fact that the person/family did not do their part properly, or at all, is not the counselor’s fault, and they need to remember that. This article was not written to teach people “how to” counsel victims of the demonic, but to educate the general public as to why it’s necessary, and how much is involved, etc. When it comes to counseling a person/family concerning the demonic and why they went through it, etc. it is a form of Spiritual Warfare. That means that the counselor must be trained and taught about the proper methods, tools, and actions that the person/family might need to take. It is also very helpful if that counselor has personally been through a demonic haunt/attack themselves; in other words, they have personal experience. It is extremely important to remember that just because someone has been through a demonic haunt or attack, that doesn’t mean they are able to give counseling to others that have been through it as well. However, and having stated that, it is better and safer for someone from the Church, who has been properly trained, to give the counseling sessions because of the very in depth questions that can arise in the sessions. When someone is being counseled they expect the counselor to be able to answer all of their questions as well as how to actually do things concerning the demonic if need be or called for such as protecting the person/family. If the counselor can not give the proper answer(s) to any question(s), then that could have a negative impact on the person/family in some way(s), thus things may not get better. In closing, it is of the utmost importance that the counselor explains to the person/family that they must learn to do their very best to forgive others, and above all, control their emotions because demons feed on those things. The Bible teaches that if we can not forgive, or learn to forgive those that wrong us, or if we allow ourselves to be angry at others for old reasons that we can not get past, then we risk the danger of judgment ourselves. The Bible teaches to forgive those that wrong you, and God will forgive you. If you do not forgive them, God will not forgive you. This can be found in the book of Luke, Chapter 6, verse 37. Just as the counselor must do their part in helping the person/family to break away from the demonic; the person/family must also do their part with what they have learned and been taught by the counselor so that they can be freed from the demonic. A counselor can only help a person/family if that person/family is willing and able to help themselves. |
